Erik Berglöf — Nature as infrastructure — Treasury seminar/webinar🍋
Friday, 12 April @ 11:00am - 12:15pm NZST — free of charge & open to all
Erik Berglöf, Chief Economist of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), will present the next seminar in the Treasury’s guest lecture series: Nature as infrastructure.
Erik will present findings from the AIIB 2023 Asian Infrastructure Finance Report, analysing how nature affects development, and how development (including in infrastructure) can be done more sustainably to safeguard nature.
With biodiversity declining faster than at any time in human history, nature’s resilience is being severely eroded. Preserving nature and biodiversity is now seen as important as, and closely related to, climate change mitigation and adaptation. There are many opportunities to leverage nature as infrastructure, integrate nature-based solutions into infrastructure development.

Treasury’s guest lecture series
New ideas, cutting-edge thinking, research and evidence are all critical for stimulating and informing work at the Treasury. Its guest lecture series offers insights from the work of experts in New Zealand and internationally. These seminars are open to everyone, to facilitate learning and debate on the important issues facing New Zealand.
Through the Guest Lecture Series, the Treasury aims to foster debate and provide a source of intellectual stimulation on important issues that underpin its policy advice. We believe these objectives can be served by involving a wide spectrum of speakers from various disciplines, drawing on the wealth of academic scholarship and casting it in a way that helps inform the process of formulating policy advice.
